Course Duration: 1 year
In light of the growing need for specialists in architectural project management to lead the design and construction stage effectively, Solent’s new, forward-thinking architectural project management master’s degree is designed to produce graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to manage both the design and construction stages of complex buildings, while dealing effectively with the technological challenges in the building industry.
An architectural project manager ensures projects are designed and built on time and to budget while protecting the integrity of the design and ensuring full compliance with regulations and sustainability standards and benchmarks. Using current knowledge in project management theory and practice, this course aims to produce these specialist managers equipped with the vision and skills to shape the future of the construction industry in the UK and internationally.
During your studies, you’ll apply the same tools and techniques used by the construction industry and learn the most up-to-date procurement routes to gain the skills to be able to deal with risks arising from the liabilities of contracting parties. The program will help you demonstrate a good understanding of Building Information Management (BIM), and you’ll employ advanced design techniques coupled with knowledge of project management at both a technical and strategic level to produce high-quality designs that meet the industry’s environmental requirements.
Graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to rethink design processes using value management principles. The course also places great emphasis on sustainable design, and you’ll use the internationally recognized environmental and sustainability assessment methods BREEAM and LEED for planning projects, buildings, and infrastructure.
Graduates from this course will be well placed to pursue roles such as project manager, design manager, sustainability champion, strategic advisor, BIM manager/coordinator in architectural and construction organizations, leading the production of building projects. The course could also lead to further research opportunities at the Ph.D. level.
Architectural project management is a fast-growing area, with potential employment in small, medium, and large companies, including contractors, developers, architectural practices, and building owners.
This innovative course is designed to appeal to those from a wide range of built-environment-related disciplines who wish to learn and apply project management principles in an architecture and construction environment. Candidates must submit a portfolio and should be prepared to attend an interview for enrolment.
